DC Ganderbal visits Sonamarg, provides update on availability of essential services and other facilities – India Education | Latest Education News | World Education News

GANDERBAL: In order to have a first-hand assessment of the availability of essential services at the tourist destination of Sonamarg, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Krittika Jyotsna today gave a whirlwind tour of Sonamarg and inspected the facilities available .

During the visit, the DC was accompanied by the CEO, Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), Tehsildar as well as officers from various operational departments.

On this occasion, the DC provided an update on the availability of essential services, including water and electricity supply, health care facilities, traffic management in addition to snow removal from the main road and other connecting roads.

The CEO, SDA briefed the DC on the availability of essential services and advised that all facilities are available throughout Sonamarg including electricity and water supply.

While inspecting the snow clearing operation, the DC was informed that the main road is open for vehicular traffic to Sonamarg.

DC was further informed that the snow had been cleared as per Gagangeer’s established plan at Sonamarg to ensure the road remained open while the inland link roads were also cleared within a limited time frame.

The Deputy Commissioner commended all departments and staff stationed there, including Beacon and the Police, who are working to keep essential services available during the winters in Sonamarg, thanks to which Sonamarg remains open for the first time in the month of January.

Meanwhile, DC inspected the operation of PHC Sonamarg and Sonamarg Police Station and provided an update on the facilities available.

During the inspection of the PHC, it was informed that the PHC is fully functional with sufficient availability of medical and paramedical personnel and essential drugs.

The DC has asked the health authorities to maintain a team of doctors as well as medical help stationed at the tobogganing and snow biking points where tourists go so that medical help is provided in real time at these points in case of need.

Given a spike in Covid cases and the looming threat of the 3rd wave of Covid, the DC has directed the subject to ensure Covid SOPs are strictly followed, in addition to sampling covid random.

While inquiring about the winter activities carried out in Sonamarg, the CEO informed that sledding and snow biking activities are continuously taking place here, in addition to the first ever professional ski course which was also held in Sonamarg during the week. last by the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports in which over 70 students participated.

Interacting with the officers on the occasion, the DC said the district administration is committed to promoting Sonamarg as one of the best winter destinations in all of UT and asked all officers to ensure that tourists visiting Sonamarg do not encounter any inconvenience and that all possible support should be offered to passing tourists.

Relevantly, earlier Sonamarg tourist destination remained closed during the winter due to heavy snowfall and avalanches in Gagangeer area and the district administration is taking all necessary measures to ensure that Sonamarg also remains open for the rest of January.
