Only essential personnel should report to work

Only essential staff of state institutions have been asked to report for work until further notice.

The Ministry of Public Administration, Interior, Provincial Councils and Local Authorities has issued a circular indicating that it has been decided to give priority to the call of the minimum personnel essential to work until further notice .

The decision was taken in view of the difficulties faced by the public in obtaining daily means of transport to get to work.

The ministry said it has been decided to give priority until further notice to calling only the minimum staff essential to carry out the establishment’s daily tasks without interruption at service stations and to allow agents to remain at home whenever possible by getting their services online.

Relevant Heads of Institutions/Heads of Divisions have been instructed to ensure that decisions regarding the calling of officers in institutions that deal directly with the public are taken with the advice and close supervision of Secretaries of Ministries / chief secretaries of the provinces concerned.

As a result, officer travel should be restricted to ensure maximum fuel efficiency during this time and institutions have been advised that steps should be taken to hold all meetings and discussions online.. (Colombo Official Gazette)
